PhD thesis of Lizan Kivits on Physical Network Identification

On February 22, 2024, Lizan Kivits successfully defended her PhD thesis entitled: “Modelling and identification of physical linear networks”. It addresses the problem of data-driven modeling of interconnected linear systems, where the subsystems do not have a prior chosen input – output direction. The networks are therefore characterized by undirected graphs. Examples are mass-spring-damper or RLC networks, but also more complex electromechanical systems. According to the committee, the thesis (380 pages) reads like a textbook and is an excellent introduction into this new field, including an extensive treatment of different network representations.
